IBM® Content Manager Enterprise Edition

Like Filenet, IBM® Content Manager Enterprise Edition (CMEE) software is a scalable enterprise content management (ECM) solution that helps you manage all types of content, such as document images, electronic office documents, XML, audio and video for multiple platforms. CMEE helps accelerate business processes and provides the foundation for an agile ECM framework.  CMEE is a multiplatform solution that can run on Windows, UNIX-based, systems, and Sun Solaris, with support for multiple database platforms.

CMEE has the added benefit of enabling Enterprise Content Manager on IBM mainframes, an area where SYSCOM excels with a premier integration and support team for the IBM z-Series (z/OS).

CMEE has the same benefits as FileNet and shares a common user interface with IBM Content Navigator (see below).  CMEE can leverage the Case Foundation workflow built into the FileNet content and process engines, the Case Manager system (see our Business Process and Case Management tab), or use the built in Document Routing workflow that runs in the CMEE library server.

SYSCOM Content Services

SYSCOM Content Services (SCS) provides a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach built as JEE applications to control and manage access to your enterprise IBM CMEE or IBM FileNet repository.  SCS provides a core set of common content features that are extensible and scalable, which saves time if new features are necessary.  Administrators can quickly create and deploy new services through configuration alone.  Content repository consumers can use ‘RESTful’ service calls to query, update, view, or retrieve content from the repository without having to code to the content repository API’s.

Features of SYSCOM Content Services include:

  • A configuration language allowing administrators to define consumable ‘content functions’ to make new services available quickly.
  • A Common set of Core Functions provides all the necessary basic ECM functions.
  • An integration layer that allows you to build new composite functions if needed.
  • Optional modules provide specific complex composite functions for document viewing and indexing from an independent web application.

All components are built as a JEE application allowing you the scalability of your existing Java application server environment.

SYSCOM Content Services will help you meet compliancy regulations such as Sarbanes-

Oxley by providing consistent processes and improve project development timelines with easily configurable services.  SCS also insulates your line of business applications from updates to your content systems.

ECM Services

SYSCOM is a services company whose mission is to “deliver the right technology solutions by teaming with our customers to understand their business needs and empower them to achieve their goals.”  As such we provide a variety of services to our customers for the implementation of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems.

Strategy Consulting and Planning

Customers who are new and experienced in ECM technologies often engage SYSCOM to assist in implementation and expansion of centralized and distributed ECM architectures.  SYSCOM can assist you in understanding best practices and effective ways to implement ECM in your system environment and to integrate ECM with your business systems.

  • Current ECM/BPM State and Target Strategy Understanding

To deliver a clear and viable ECM/BPM Target State Strategy starts with the understanding of key aspects of the current ECM/BPM program/technology state in the customer’s environment as well as harnessing the strategic planning already invested by the customer.   The recommended approach will begin with assessing selected areas of the current ECM/BPM state and digesting the various domain strategies. Tasks include:

Understanding Domain Strategies

    • Request documentation on all published Strategies, if any.
    • Setup a call with each Strategy Owner for overview and clarification of questions derived from documentation review.
    • Identify strategy execution projects underway to obtain implementation approach and timelines.
    • Begin capturing content integration data points from strategy.

Content and Process

    • Execution of this task is based on the familiarity gained with the review of the Reference Architecture and Cloud Strategy.
    • The customer will provide a contact for each ECM Repository, and BPM solution (if separate from the repository) to provide understanding of how the content is being created and used, processes involved with the content, as well as the product architecture.
    • Set up interviews with repository owner(s) to discuss access patterns, access volumes, and content types and identify business units using the repository content.
    • Set up interviews with business units to discuss business requirements and business processes for access and use of content in the repositories.
    • The customer will provide repository (and BPM, if separate,) vendor product roadmap information and facilitate a discussion (if needed) with the vendor to obtain this information.
  • ECM/BPM ECM Assessment

The objective of this step is to create a current state assessment and needs document that will be used as input to development of the ECM/BPM strategy

Understanding the customer’s current use of their ECM/BPM technologies will show not only the benefits and capabilities of the system today, but will help to identify other business problems that could benefit from ECM/BPM solutions, along with gaps in functionality in the current solutions.

Combining the current state assessment and needs with the customer’s strategic planning will enable the creation of an effective ECM/BPM strategy.

  • ECM/BPM Target State Recommendation

The objective of this step is to create the ECM/BPM strategy and a recommendation that can be used as input to creation of a strategy implementation plan.  Additionally, the recommendation will include operational and continuous process improvement suggestions, along with best practices for a shared services organization.

Phases, contributing to the whole and bringing value on their own, will enable a more dynamic build of the strategic roadmap allowing the plan to adjust as business and technology plans and strategies evolve.  Minimizing impact on the business users and applications that utilize current technology and content is also a driving principle of development of the implementation plan.

will also work with you to prioritize and stage implementations to maximize benefits in your implementations.

Customers often engage SYSCOM to evaluate current implementations and make recommendations for improvements and changes to better their content management, implementations, and support.
