Content Systems Migration

While SYSCOM creates Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions that work we also focus on migration processes that may be necessary to achieve the business goals of customers.  SYSCOM’s experts help organizations Plan, Build, and Manage ECM migration efforts as needed when organizations change repositories or merge repositories.

SYSCOM’s migration offerings are designed to run at a customer site.  The data to be migrated never has to leave the secure environment where it currently resides.

SYSCOM supports the following types of IBM based ECM System Migrations:

  • IBM® DB2® ImagePlus for z/OS to IBM® Content Manager Version 8 running in z/OS or Multiplatform environment or IBM® FileNet® P8
  • IBM® Content Manager for IBM iSeries® to IBM® Content Manager Version 8 running in z/OS or Multiplatform environment or IBM® FileNet® P8
  • IBM® Content Manager Version 8 running in z/OS or Multiplatform environment to IBM® FileNet® P8

We can also support merging any of the ECM systems above together in one repository or splitting the systems.  Content transformation from any IBM MODCA format to TIFF or PDF is also supported.

SYSCOM offers 2 different migration solutions.  IP2CM is a high-volume mainframe centric and the other, AnySource Migrator (ASM) is set of high-volume Windows based services that support FileNet P8 environments.

In addition to the migration solutions above for migrating IBM ECM’s to FileNet we also support migrating 25 other repositories to FileNet including:

  • Microsoft Sharepoint
  • OLE Database
  • CMIS Repositories

IBM Content Manager OnDemand, Mobius and CA/VIEW (aka SAR) are not supported at this time.

IP2CM™ – ImagePlus to Content Manager Migration Utility

When choosing IBM DB2 Content Manager to manage business information, organizations must decide upon the best, most cost-effective way to load data from existing ImagePlus repositories. IP2CM leverages SYSCOM’s unique experience with DB2 Content Manager, ImagePlus, and custom applications to ensure that mission-critical data makes the transition quickly, smoothly, and intact, with minimal interruption to users or processing capability.

Why Use IP2CM™?

While IBM offers a migration utility with DB2 Content Manager, it is designed only for standard FAF/FWA customers and is not easily customizable without assistance. Organizations that use a custom front-end for ImagePlus are faced with a choice… They can either put in considerable effort rebuilding metadata from scratch in Content Manager, or employ a more powerful migration utility. With SYSCOM’s IP2CM organizations can rest assured that the metadata, which is so vital to their work, will transition to Content Manager smoothly and intact.

Migration Process

Pre-Migration Assessment

Before beginning the process of moving metadata, it is necessary to ensure that the nuances of your environment and systems are fully understood. To that end, SYSCOM, with your help, creates a Pre-Migration Assessment Report

Migration

When the Pre-Migration Assessment Report is complete, the migration can begin. First, we prepare Content Manager to receive the metadata. Next we extract the metadata from ImagePlus. We then process the metadata as necessary, before loading it into Content Manager. Finally, we valid ate the migration to ensure that no errors were reported..

Post-Migration Assessment

Once the migration has been performed, we will demonstrate the success of the migration, and confirm that the results are in line with expectations.

High Volume, Low Risk

IP2CM is capable of migrating roughly 1 million documents per hour. With this benchmark, organizations have the option of migrating metadata all at once, or in phases, with minimal interruption to users or processing capability.

ASM™ – An IBM Partner Solution for Migration among repositories

Why AnySource Migrator?

Do you need to migrate from one repository to another? Do you want to modify metadata or create new document renditions during the migration? Would you prefer a solution that is more automated and reliable? With SYSCOM AnySource Migrator, you can quickly and easily define, execute and confirm a repository migration. Use Cases include migration, document/data export or import, document renditions (Mo:DCA and PDF conversion) and data modification.

Overview

SYSCOM AnySource Migrator (ASM) provides the migration architect with a tool to perform taxonomy analysis, define migration processes, test migrations, execute the migrations and monitor the results of the migration. ASM provides over 25 pre-defined connectors to many repositories including IBM FileNet P8/Content Manager, FileNet Content Services and  FileNet Image Services, Microsoft Sharepoint, OLEDB, EMC, and CMIS.

The migration architect uses the ASM migration tool to perform taxonomy analysis, configure migration rules, test migrations, execute the migrations and monitor the results of the migration. He or she configures jobs, processes, operations, and actions using ASM to meet the designs of the desired migration.

Once configured, migrations can be scheduled to execute as needed. During migration execution, ASM keeps track of every document migrated and provides a status that is used to validate the migration results.

Benefits

SYSCOM AnySource Migrator provides organizations with the following benefits:

  • Provides unusual flexibility in how a migration is designed
  • Provides rendition and metadata update options not normally available in a migration
  • Increases migration reporting
  • Improves project success factors
  • Avoids the traditional need to understand a repository load facility and the effort to manipulate data for the load facility

Features

Features of SYSCOM AnySource Migrator include:

  • The Job Manager is Accountable, Adaptable, Repeatable, Scalable, Predictable, and Extensible
  • Repository Providers enable the connection to the repository and provide basic content capability
  • The Transformations feature gives the architect an ability to configure Operations and Actions necessary to map and change metadata
  • Several Rendition functions are available to convert TIFF documents to PDF or PDF/A, or Mo:DCA documents to TIFF, or generate Full Text PDFs from image files.
  • The tooling is extensible to allow the ability to create custom Providers (for new repositories) or Operations (for new document or data features).
  • Scalable vertically or horizontally to provide the throughput desired.
